چکیده

In 1929, A.N. Drury and A. Szent-Gyorgyi wrote,' "As adenylic acid has been found to be a constituent of many and different types of animal cells, an investigation into its general physiological properties in addition to its detailed action upon the mammalian heart seems to us very desirable." The authors then noted that adenosine and adenylic acid "slow the rate of beating, impair conduction from auricle to ventricle.. .," and "lower general arterial pressure and ... dilate the coronary vessels. . . ." An additional important role for adenosine as the mediator of metabolically regulated coronary flow was proposed by Berne2 in 1963, although more

Therapeutic Avenues in Ophthalmology - What is New ?

Progress in ophthalmology, specifically in ocular pharmacotherapy is accompanied not only by discovering the new therapeutic agents, but also by renewed interest to old drugs, thus representing therapeutic renaissance. Advances over the past decade in drug discovery technologies have not yet led to an increase in productivity. It is a long and costly way to launch a new drug uninsured from fail...

Venlafaxine Attenuates Heat Hyperalgesia Independent of Adenosine or Opioid System in a Rat Model of Peripheral Neuropathy

Primarily opioidergic and adenosine mechanisms are considered to be involved in the antinociceptive effects of antidepressants. This study was designed to determine the efficacy of acute venlafaxine administration in alleviating symptoms of neuropathic pain and the role of endogenous adenosine and opioid systems in this effect of venlafaxine. We have evaluated the effect of caffeine, a non-sele...

On-Shell Consistency of the Rarita-Schwinger Field Formulation

A consistent formulation of a field theory involving interacting spin-3/2 degrees of freedom is an old and much studied problem, see e.g. Refs. [1, 2, 3]. Recently, it has attracted renewed interest in the context of chiral effective field theory of QCD with explicit ∆(1232) isobar degrees of freedom and its applications to e.g. pion-nucleon scattering or photo-nuclear processes, see Refs. [4, ...

Effect of an ectonucleotidase inhibitor on anticonvulsant actions of low-frequency electrical stimulation in perforant path rapid kindling in rats

Introduction: Considering high prevalence of epileptic disease and considering that 40 percent of epileptic patients are resistant to drug therapy, it needs more researches to find new therapeutic ways. LFS is among the new methods for epilepsy treatments. One possible mechanism involved in the anticonvulsant effect of LFS is increased adenosine. Therefore, in this study the role of adenosin...
